The more I think about it, the more Aurora reminds me SO much of Persephone. I might need to do a fanfic of this sometime (with Hades as himself of course).

and while she;s not a goddess, Merida is even more like Princess Atalanta. challenging the suitors to a race personally is so what she would do if she couldn't trick them as she did.

Most of these are amazing matches, and I commend you making these very profound and thought-provoking connections to classic mythology. Of all the matches though, I think Aurora is the most like Persephone. =)

This one and Persephone/Aurora are spot on. I can see the connections between them all bt those two would definitely be first choices for them, wow, I did nor make sense just then lol. Anyway, it's weird that I was thinking of this (DPs and Greek goddesses) just yesterday and today you made a poll about that.

I was thinking about this about a week ago!! I think it's super cool that all of the princesses have qualities of Greek goddesses. :) Your pairings are really similar to mine. I agree with all of them basically equally, but I like the reasons for this one, so I chose it. Also I thought of Rapunzel as Persephone because she's playful, naïve, etc. And Mulan as Athena because she's brave, smart, and all that warrior stuff. :)

thank you! I used to read about greek mythology all the time as a kid but mostly the goddesses (especially Artemis, who was at the time my favorite, but now it's Persephone). I recently read a VERY good Disney!Hades fanfic of him and Persephone falling in love and she also reminds me a little of Aurora, though more rebellious.

some of these were hard- I also see Athena in Belle and Artemis in Merida. And Hestia in Cinderella and Tiana in Demeter. I thought about putting Iris for Rapunzel, since she 'paints' the sky, but not much is said about her personality.

Some of these are spot on but I have a few issues with Aurora as Persephone, Belle as Artemis and Merida as Athena. Persephone started off as innocent but once she became Queen of the Underworld she earned a fearsome reputation and became just as cold and stoic as her husband. I don't see Belle as Artemis because 1.) the bow and arrow motif is totally Merida's and Belle shows no proclivity for hunting 2.) I don't see Belle as a bit cold, if anything she's the opposite. As for Merida/Athena, Merida's actions are the opposite of wisdom and she comes off as more impulsive and hot-tempered than anything. Jasmine/Hera is also a bit odd since Hera is an extremely haughty individual and even cursed Heracles into killing his own family and threw Hesphastus off Mount Olympus (her son!) when she discovered he was deformed. I doubt Jasmine would be so drastic.

I like the idea and your comparisons are apt, just remember that the Greek gods have multiple layers and are even contradictory!

Like Artemis, Merida is a dedicate archer and outdoors-woman, and a dedicated virgin. She wouldn't fall in love with anyone for anything, and resists with all her might and mien. Like Merida, Artemis is also a Daddy's Girl (though not as famously so as Athena since Artemis is also dedicated to her mother... which come to think of it makes her still more like Merida! XD), as Zeus gave her her prized bow and promised she would never have to fall in love as a little girl.

Belle also fits the bill for Athena, as she's known for her wisdom, and is a devoted Daddy's Girl. (Heck, like Athena she doesn't have a mother in the picture to compete for her father's attention! XD)

As you said, you can find similar traits between many different princesses and goddesses, but in hind sight I think those two would have been better suited for each other. (Merida/Artemis and Belle/Athena).

I don't think Belle is cold in mean way, she's just not open with her emotions and can be distant with people (like how she wants friends but doesn't warm up to anyone easily in town despite them being friendly to her). this is what almost got the Beast killed, not confessing her feelings. I didn't pick her for hunting either, I was just listing with Artemis was goddess of. there's also that Artemis, while rather tomboyish like Merida, was still VERY much a girl's girl and (usually) supportive of other women, while Athena is totally a guy's girl and doesn't care about female friendships. she was pretty vengeful too, like with Arachne. those two I was REALLY confliced about because I also agree with your points. Jasmine can be pretty haughty too, and she basically told Aladdin to kill himself after yanking on his clothes, which I thought was kind of extreme. I don't think Hades is really as cold as people say either- stoic definitely, but he had the crappy lot in life and was lonely but kind of just sucked it up till Persephone became his manic pixie dream girl. we don't know how Aurora would've turned out after her finding out her life was a lie. she could've become bitter and cold too, though hopefully not.

of course, these can't all be TOTALLY the same, as the Greeks had pretty screwed up characters and the princesses are totally different people made in modern times where our values are completely different from ancient Greece (thank God!). so I agree, none are perfect, but they're fun to compare.

Hera is a perfect match for Jasmine also did you know the bird of Hera is a peacock which has been associated with Jasmine so I think it's a perfect match!

Yet when I watched the movie what I saw was her trying to be friendly with others, but the townsfolk kept blowing her off when she tried to connect with them and then badmouthed her behind her back. I wouldn't call her cold and distant based on that criteria.

Um... No offense, but Artimis WAS the goddess of archery, hunting, outdoorsmanship, animals, and virgin women. She was the one that male hunters prayed to before they went on the hunt (and trust me, most hunters weren't women in ancient Greek society). Like the famous Hippolytus (son of Theseus and Hippolyta), a righteous misogynist that scorned women and love (thus Aphrodite) but embraced hunting and outdoorsmanship. He adored and was adored by Artemis for this reason, despite being a He-man Woman-hater.

Artemis also wasn't really "a girl's girl," she was a tomboy. She also wasn't "supportive of other women"; she only supported women who chose to be virgins like her. The second they lost their virginity, even if they were tricked or raped like her handmaidens sometimes were, they lost favor with her.

I understand your selection, but I think the "wisdom and motherless Daddy's Girl" traits in Athena better suit Belle, and the "dedicated archer, outdoorswoman, and determined-to-remain-unmarried virgin" aspect of Artemis better suits Merida.

Along with Ariel and Merida's.

I've thought of that for a long time! Aurora really fits how I imagine Persephone go be. Plus, She'll walk with springtime wherever she goes. I would have put Snow White as Hestia, Mulan or Belle as Athena and Merida as Artemis, though.

I don't know about goddesses that much. But seeing from the description, I think Aurora fits the most.

I've written an article with the same topic and I've chosen Jasmine as Hera. I hadn't really thought of Ariel being Aphrodite and I think I agree. Great pictures btw!

This one definetely. I associate Snow with Demeter for exactly same reason. I think she matches her way better than tomboyish and playful Pocahontas who some people compare to Demeter.
I associate Cindy more with Hestia and Merida more with Artemis. I can see Hera in Jasmine but I disag ree with Jasmine being regal. I don't see any of Artemis in Belle. She is Aphrodite to me because her name means "beauty" and her love changed the Beast.
