It would be cool to see a girl being an adventurous explorer and the guy hopping around and spying on her or whatever, but .... yeah I don't know.

This is the movie that would be affected the least, seeing as gender doesn't really come into play at all. I would see it basically the same movie.The only thing I think would be different is that the "killing Kocoum" scene would be a bit different because a man could probably overpower a woman. Not trying to be sexist, just stating the biological truth.

Yeah it'd be about the same enjoyment for me, but the original way just makes more sense. They'd have more explaining to do in the plot (what would a girl explorer be doing on an expedition boat at that time?)

I actually really like the idea and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have disliked female!Smith as much as I do his male version (don't hate, just not particulary fond of him is all) because the movie would have refrained from the concept of a possessive narcissistic male trying to shape an exotic gorgeous woman into his ideal girlfriend form by constantly and frequently demonstrating his male superiority.
