*me and my best friends look at each other and gulp. We knew that the chances of one of us getting picked were good and we are scared. we look at the stage and watch Effie walk up and prepare to say her normal opening lines*

"a message form the capitol. oh great what did we do wrong." *they play the video saying during the games the head game maker would be and i quote' looking for a concubine as a gift from President Snow for dong a good job on his first year as head game maker' all the females shuddered*
I wonder who the lucky lady will be. Now,as usual,ladies first! *she pulls out a name and my blood runs cold*

good morning all of district 10! *a new girl walks out on the stage. the old 1 must've died or something* i'm Perose's replacement, my name is Otillie Spottiswoode.
spotty is right...*i say softly, looking at her brightly colored spotted dress*
so we'll get down to business, u kno y we're here. i've never been the type 4 sappy speeches n u've all heard it about 10-15 times...so i'm going 2 skip it....unless any of u rlly wanna hear it...*silence....i like this girl* good, so the video. *and it plays....only with an added thing about something 4 the game maker person and a personal whore*
well we kno who it's NOT gonna b...*the girls around me mutter, looking at me. i glare at them, my pupils narrowing in my ice blue eyes, and they freeze n turn back to the stage*
ladies 1st...*she says, going 2 the bowl. i instantly straighten and walk out of the cluster with my head held high*
i volunteer. *i say firmly b4 the guards grab me*

wow, the district's 1st volunteer...as far as i kno. *Otillie smiles at me with 1 of those big, BS smiles as i walk on2 stage* any male volunteers? *she asks b4 walking 2 the bucket* no 1? ok...*she draws a name and looks over the crowd and unfolds the paper* Gunner Flamsteed. *a big, tall guy with long-ish silver hair n red-brown eyes walks out....n i glare, then force my rage back* (middle boy blocking part of the moon) these 2 will be taken to the capital. u will each have roughly an hour to pack and say any good-byes. *she adds. he smirks and glances at me n i glare back, forcing myself not 2 pound his face in*

*we all shudder and laugh b4 they walk with me to the train depot along with my friends and family when we get there we c Lartius and his friends and family as well as his girlfriend whom he is kissing good-bye i hug my mom dad older bro and younger sis. me and my friend finish our group hug when the train pulls up.Lartius gets on the train. I go 2 get on stop at the door turn around and look at my friends and family * I will see you again this is not where it ends. I will carry you with me till I see you again. *i c the tears falling so i get on the train and the train rolls away*

*as every1 leaves i realize how much fun it's going 2 b making sure he dies 1st...and the thought of being the 1 tht kills him makes me smile as every1 walks back to their houses and i quickly realize what i did and run, jumping in thro my window instead of using the door and hoping he doesn't show up while i pack. instead he shows up just as i finish and i jump out the window again with my stuff*
GET UR LITTLE FUCKING ASS BACK HERE!! U THINK UR GONNA GO OFF N B HIS LITTLE WHORE!? *he snaps, jumping out the window and staggering slightly* UR ALREADY MY LITTLE WHORE!!
tht's y i'm leaving....*i mutter* quite frankly i'd rather b dead...*and i run faster. the train's waiting 4 me and i run in. i don't have any friends to say good-bye 2...n my only family is the drunken, half-ass man tht just got blocked by the guards* please kill him....please kill him so i have a reason to want to come back n not be in a body bag...*i whisper* i'm going 2 take care of Gunner but u have to get rid of him....without me around to take his anger n rage on he'll start using others...

*I look at the girl that jst ran in without saying a single good-bye(the train would go 2 Ray's district first then ur charries) and I walk up 2 her and smile kindly*I kno that soon we will have to kill each other so talking might seem stupid but the way I c it the games haven't stared yet so I c no reason y we can't be friendly my name's Raylyn what's urs

*looks at her, more worried about my father breaking thro the guards somehow...* i'm Katri...
GET UR ASS BACK OUT HERE!! *i hear his course n ugly voice snap and he pushes 1 guard off of him. i jump n start backing away*
plz don't let him get in here...plz don't let him get in here....*i whimper softly as 2 more guards replace the fallen 1 and they pull him down. Gunner finishes his good-byes and walks past, looking down at my father n smirking slightly, kneeling down n whispering something 2 him b4 walking on2 the train....n i get this gut-wrenching feeling i know what it was...*

it's hard 2 make friends when ur born on the bottom of the ladder n somehow ur father manages to make u fall lower....plus....being born as the "Reaping Day Bastered" doesn't help either...(she was born on Reaping day n got tht name because of it....every1 in her district knows it but it has slowly trickled in2 other districts. up 2 u whether it made it as far as 8 yet)

what is? *Gunner looks at me and my stomach twists in2 the usual knot* the thing on the video...don't worry, u wouldn't b chosen if u were the last girl on earth...
*growls slightly, realizing more and more how much i'm going 2 enjoy taking his last breath from his body*

i'd call u insane. *he laughs* u've got nothing 2 b proud of. ur mother gave birth 2 u at the age of 15 n was exempt from the games just 4 it, only to b chosen the next year AND b the 1st 1 killed. apparently even she knew u were gonna b a screw up, because she didn't even put up a fight.

now....*he lifts me up n hangs me over his shoulder, walking 2 the bedroom*

*eventually i'm aloud 2 get up and get dressed, n i try 2 hide the bruises with powder. a black eye and a small cut on my face....n it's only the 1st day....here we go...*

*when I get back 2 my room I find a beautiful dress and a note. I pick it up and read it. it says that I am 2 put on the dress and go find Cinna and his team. it even told me where to go. I put on the dress and follow the notes directions*

*manages 2 cover them n walks wearing my black dress with a black hood and black sleeve gloves. i walk out n quickly take off out side*

*I find him and he does my hair and makeup*
