Much like Stephen Curry\'s emergence from under the shadows of veterans like LeBron James and Kevin Durant, the 2015 NBA All-Star Game halftime show will feature its own breakout star in Ariana Grande.
The 21-year-old, who was was named Billboard\'s Women in Music Rising Star of 2014, will be the headliner at halftime of the midseason showcase. Grande is known for hits such as "Break Free," "Love Me Harder" and "Problem," all of which she is expected to sing Sunday night at Madison Square Garden. Her most recent public performance was live at the Grammys on Feb. 8, when she belted out the ballad "Just a Little Bit of Your Heart."
For Grande, the performance will be yet another bullet point on an impressive resume that includes two Grammy Award nominations and an MTV Video Music award among others. Her 2014 album,
My Everything, debuted atop the Billboard 200 and featured four top 10 singles.
In addition to making waves on the music scene last year, Grande will guest star on the new Fox series Scream Queens. The role will be her first on television since starring on Nickelodeon\'s Sam & Cat. In addition, she performed as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on Sept. 30, 2014, even playing She-Ra opposite Chris Pratt as He-Man.
Last year\'s event in Houston featured halftime performances from Earth, Wind & Fire and Janelle Monae. In 2013, Alicia Keys took center court and the year prior saw Pitbull and Chris Brown entertain the crowd.
The entertainment Sunday night won\'t be a one-woman show, however. Christina Aguilera, The Rockettes, Queen Latifah and Tamia will each take the stage before tipoff. Aguilera will get the action started in a pregame show, while Queen Latifah and Tamia will perform the American and Canadian national anthems, respectively.
Coverage of the All-Star Game begins at 7 p.m. ET on TNT. The game is set to tip off at 8:30 p.m.
