The world was once filled with gods of all kinds, capable of incredible feats beyond human comprehension. Due to their awesome nature, humans could only revere and respect gods, passing down their stories for centuries at a time. Whether it be forming the sun in the sky, creating extra days in the year, moving mountains, or forging incredible weapons in volcanos, the stories told of impossible events that humans could never even begin to truly grasp.

But as time went on, less and less people continued to believe in the immortal dieties across the globe. Christianity spread rampantly along with secularism, creating a majority of people who either believed in one god or none at all, leaving the pagan dieties as mere cultural figures that are no longer worshipped. The twenty first century rolled in, and the immortal gods of various religions were essentially dead for over five hundred years. Or so it seemed.

Suddenly, in various places all over the United States of America, children were found appearing to talk to themselves constantly. From sudden replies even though no one had been speaking to full length conversations that surpassed any form of improv, these children were all fully convinced that they were speaking to someone who wasn’t visible.

Despite the different personalities of these children, all psychological studies and analysises of their mental states proved that they were absolutely normal and had no problems aside from the belief that they were speaking to someone. And so the children were left alone by the press after a while, even though society wasn’t as merciful.

Years later, once these children had reached a certain age, the voices finally introduced themselves as specific god. To prove it, each child was drawn into a ‘pocket’ in the dimensions where they could see the mighty god who’d been speaking to them for so long in all their glory. With that final bond made, the children became set on discovering a way to restore their respective god to their former glory, usually disregarding common sense in order to achieve their goal. Each of them developed the ability to use about a tenth of the powers their gods wield, but it drains their life energy bit by bit and control can be lost if they are not careful. Nevertheless, they can essentially be considered demigods and are well-aware of their status as something fundamentally different from the humankind that ostracized them at a young age.

It has come to the point where it is believed that whichever god awakens first will become the ruler of the current world, due to the lack of opposition. As such, rivalries sprout between the different children as they all race for their own individual answer, which ends up causing a lot of trouble around them.

The gods themselves can manifest for short times by using the life force of the child they materialize. When they do, they can use a fourth of their power, which is enough to wipe away half of the continent if they so choose. The life force of the demigods is much greater than a normal person's, giving them a 'semi-divine' rank among the living, but they will definitely die when drained, so they try to use their powers sparingly. It is currently uncertain how far a demigod can go before they inevitably kill themselves. However, the demigod can visit the god in their ‘realm’ whenever they like and hear their voice at any time with no consequence.

Discoveries have been made after these now grown up children have gotten used to being with their gods. The first was that they could decrease the strain of summoning the power of their respective gods by channeling their power through tools and other mediums. The more complicated the method, the less they suffered. The second discovery was that they could increase their god’s strength through large scale ceremonies in worship of their god, such as sacrificing a basking whale in name of Poseidon or using a temple-style ritual for Ra. Though it is unconfirmed, it is believed that if a god gains enough power, they can begin to sustain themselves and return to their full strength.

Among the controversy caused by the sudden appearance of these people who were once labeled as insane children, another problem has appeared within America. A group of people called the ‘Twelve Apostles’ appeared wielding a vast amount of power in order to annihilate the gods and ‘save’ the children, preventing the world from being dominated by a pagan diety. Each of these twelve uses Judeo-Christian magic based on their God and is willing to go as far as to sacrifice lives in order to defeat the children and their gods, believing that the sacrifice would save many more lives in the end.

The Twelve Apostles were formed by the highest tier of the Christendom in response to an event that had occurred thirty years ago. The gods who were supposedly dead had attempted to superimpose a special heaven made of all their pantheons onto earth and the worst case scenario was narrowly avoided by sealing the heaven and cutting the connections the gods had to the world. The Twelve Apostles exist as a counter-measure against the return of these gods and are the only ones outside of the Papal State that know the truth about the event from thirty years ago.

Characters:

Demigods: There is no limit in the amount, but each and every one of them would have to be within the same ten year span in terms of age. Specifically, anywhere from eighteen to twenty-eight. Aside from that, personality, ethnicity, appearance--all is up to freedom of expression. It takes place in America after all, and for good reason. There is no need for the character to have the same cultural background as the god who possesses them, nor is there any need for them to be different. In terms of gods, they only need to be an actual 'god' and pagan. No angels, demons (unless they are divine in nature), or spiritual creatures. Also, they are typically the size of an apartment building, though they can scale themselves down to the size of a normal person if they like. But when they do, they need to keep a specific trait that they can't change about themselves (such as Set having reddish skin, or Zeus having lightning yellow eyes).

Twelve Apostles: There are, of course, only twelve, and each one of them is an ardent catholic. They have names, but are always referred to by their number (the leader is named One, the second in command is named Two). The number has absolutely nothing to do with their strength at all. They aren't possessed, but can still channel their power based on stories in the bible, such as a flaming sword or walking on water. They truly desire the end of each and every god, though it is up to their personality whether they just want to kill the demigod or save them.

They are not similarly defined by their appearance, but they all typically work alone or in groups of two. It is after a certain event that occurred ten months prior that they begin to move in America to exterminate all demigods and gods.
