Name: Game of Faith

Plot: This takes place within a massive island to the west of the European continent, south of the U.K. This island is the hub of all science and religion at the same time. It is the only place on earth where both logic and philosophy can exist side by side without being at each other’s necks. This island is called Eden.
The world’s populous is distinguished into three groups: The normal people who live a descent, oblivious life (Mundanes), the members of the religions all across the world capable of using magic (Clergy/mages/other derivatives of religious men or magicians), and the people wielding advanced technology who strive to create a better race for mankind. The latter two are often at odds throughout the world, shedding blood during disputes. Eden was founded in order to create better ties and unite them against the various monsters and demons who roam the earth.

Magicians: Their history goes back for centuries and centuries, depending on the religion. These people pass down their knowledge to their children and believe strongly in pureblood, keeping it from the people of science. Recently, these people are split among noble families and the general religions; The religions tend to hold a larger number of people and affect even the world of mundanes, where as the powerful mage families are considered of noble and hold many secrets about magic that they spend many generations researching. Many religions are considered ‘extinct’, meaning there is no one who practices their beliefs. The religions recognized under the authority of the United Magic Association (UMA) are the Abrahamic religions, Buddhism, Egyptology, Shintoism, and Hinduism. Each of these religions has their own appointed leader and their own hierarchies, but Christianity, being the most influential of all the religions at present, holds the most power in the UMA and keeps the order. Noble families carry less influence in the UMA due to their 'privatized' nature, and independently hold their own level of status and prestige. Egyptology holds the longest history among the religions and has the most detailed work on old magic and the ancient world. Because of this, they have jurisdiction over the UMA’s library, located in Alexandria, Egypt.

Christian magic is referred to as theurgy while Christian saints are distinctly capable of using thaumaturgy; special Christian magic usable only by them, as it is literally miracle working, as opposed to simply invoking God's name.

The UMA gives titles to specifically powerful mages who have proven their skill on numerous occassions, contributing to the research of magic and have very likely won quite a bit of fame and renown among the association. The people who are given this esteemed honor are known as 'wizards'.

Science: These people conduct research on creating a greater race of humans than what exist. It is believed that a certain group of humans was favored among others many millennia ago, and the gods gave them the power to perform magic, leaving the others to remain as they were; stale, unable to progress with evolution. These stale beings—or ‘Mundanes’—strove to keep up and fight natural selection by inventing new ways to evolve. With their technology, they were able to survive in the world where magic was dominate, even if they were only second class. But after a while, their technology began to appeal to the mages and they began to merge with the Mundanes. These mages lost their powers entirely as they lost their faith in their respective religion, and so was unable to perform as they should.
After many, many years, scientists developed what they believe may finally put them on par with the mages who’ve nearly severed themselves entirely from the Mundane world. They found a means of unlocking the parts of the brain that are still asleep, allowing to access unique abilities. This was quickly dubbed ‘ESP’, and those who could use it, espers. These powers are one of a kind—a person only gains the one ability, but there will never be something exactly the same. The main problem was that when this method was used on adults, they died within twenty-four hours from accidents relating to their power. On children who’ve yet to graduate from high school, however, it proves to have a fatality rate of less than 10%, urging the scientists to create espers within Eden and have them attend school where they hone their abilities.

Board of Directors

Affiliated with Project ESP (12):

Director of Project ESP- Executive Piraeus (In charge)

Director of Biological Research Department- Dr. Jasmine Hokulanu

Director of Multi-Dimensional Physics- Dr. Souichiro Kobayakawa: that man

Director of Psychology, Forensics, and Logical Reasoning- Professor Isaac Bale

Not Affiliated with Project ESP (12):

Superintendent Ulysses Warren

Director of Health and Services- Dr. Elizabeth Orvill

Director of Mechanics, Engineering, and General Construction- President Drustan Somsak

Espers: Also known as psychics or ability users, they are people who can use psychic abilities or supernatural powers, categorized between extrasensory and psychokinesis. Very few power users are born with supernatural powers while most are ordinary people who have the potential to develop them. Participating in Eden's Power Curriculum Program is one means of developing psychic powers for ordinary people with potential. Most power users are able to use their powers just by thinking. Depending on their level of strength, they are given one of six levels that rank their amount of control over their own powers.

Level 0 is the level given to those who have the potential to become an esper, but either have absolutely no significant control of powers of any kind, or have a small passive amount of powers shown. Level 1 is the lowest level to those who either show a weak amount of control or no control whatsoever, but clear signs of having powers. The ranks goes up to level 4 in terms of strength. Level 5 is a difficult to reach level given only to the most powerful of espers. The Board of Directors in Eden believe that it would take 100 natural years of their program for an esper to exceed level 5. Only seven espers have this level and remain within Eden at all times. Level 5's only share one thing in common: instability. Each one suffers from mental disorders (unnamed or named, doesn't matter) that give them problems personality-wise. It is assumed that it is a side effect of being a level 5, as all of them and only them have these problems.

Level 5's:

1) Blaise Útgarða “Wave Surge

2) Logan Sinclair "The Dryad"

3) Kyle Crowley "Dimensional Slider"

4) Gargi Shankara "Penrose Circle"

5)

6) Chester Greene "Subzero"

7) Kuzuya Yoshimatsu "Gravi-Man"

Former: 5) Viktor Rasnikov "The Hourglass" discovered to have magically based powers.

Demons: These creatures vary from faith to faith, and have several different names and classifications. The UMA, however, attempted at a general classification for them.

C-rank) Relatively low leveled demons that usually don’t cause much trouble, such as a gremlin, or a phantom. In large groups, however, they can even affect the Mundanes to an extent. C-ranks usually don’t kill mortals.

B-rank) These feed on human souls, flesh, or other aspects of life within their life and can cause trouble on their own. These have their ability to speak and show stronger signs of comprehension and intelligence than C-ranks, making them more dangerous. There are more species within B-rank than any other.

A-rank) Extremely dangerous, usually capable of intelligence beyond the average humans. They hunt mortal souls for sport even if they do not require it. The most famous A-ranks are vampires and werewolves.

S-rank) Powerful on a catastrophic level. These creatures are usually powerful figures of evil and sin within religion, such as the leviathan and behemoth. They are incredibly difficult to kill—impossible, in some cases—and are sealed in varying ways as an alternative.

The main plot in the storyline is that demons are steadily appearing more often throughout the world and doing damage to the balance of living souls. The church has surmised that an S-rank demon has been freed and its presence is agitating the demons. Meanwhile, prominent noble families within the UMA are wary of the esper research in Eden and is suggesting that the work is unethical. Others insist that they only wish to build an army to oppose the UMA.

Characters: There would be big noble families in the UMA. There is a board of directors in charge of Eden, half of them scientists working on “Project ESP”. The Chief Superintendant/Head Director of the board is an NPC named Ulysses Warren, and he is on good terms with the Pope, who’s in charge of the UMA. It was their idea to merge the two opposing sides in Eden to begin with.

Characters can be any of the following:

Demons, espers, magicians, mundanes, scientists

Setting: The only main significant place would be Eden, though it can take place all over the world due to the spread of religion.

Comments: Characters can have in depth beliefs and faith, or be atheist. There can be gore and blood against the demons, or it can be more ‘classy’ with the nobles in the UMA. Of course, the thing with both sides is that it will be pulling between what’s ‘good’ or ‘evil’, so which side is the antagonist is entirely up to perspective. Ethics is also a relative matter, varying depending on who's view it is.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask me. If you want to read the prologue (which happens a few years before the start of the storyline, mind), look in the articles.
