Alexander Skarsgård wins best actor in a limited series at SAG Awards

Capping a remarkable awards run, Alexander Skarsgård has proven that he can even stand with the leading men: His performance in 

has won him the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.

“A lot of people have been talking about who the greatest male actor ever is – is it [fellow nominee] Mr. Robert De Niro, or the tall dude from

? The thespians have spoken — thank you very much for that,” he joked after coming to the stage to accept the award.

Then, getting more serious, he added, “I am shocked, I’m humbled, thank you very much for this. I’m incredibly embarrassed and infinitely grateful.”

Unlike the Emmys, Golden Globes, and Critics’ Choice Awards, all of which honored Skarsgård with best supporting actor trophies, the SAG Awards do not separate lead and supporting categories for TV programs, making it rare for actors not at the center to get nominated — let alone win.
